About The Event.
The establishment of an effective and strategic solution for Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (IETS) is vital to ensure that the final discharge complies with the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009. Among the various treatment methods, the Activated Sludge Process (ASP) stands out as the most widely applied secondary biological treatment, particularly effective in removing BOD, ammonia, and nitrate. ASP is commonly used across industries such as Food & Beverage and Leather Manufacturing. However, due to the complex nature of industrial wastewater and the broad range of treatment technologies available, Competent Persons (CePIETSO-BP, CePIETSO-PCP) often face challenges in selecting the most effective solution for their specific IETS setup.
This training course is specifically curated to enhance participants’ understanding of the conventional and biological treatment processes within IETS, with a strong focus on the Activated Sludge Process. The program outlines key modules, starting from the Zero Discharge Policy and sources of pollution to detailed technical discussions on ASP parameters, control strategies, and performance optimization. Participants will also be introduced to the preliminary, primary, and tertiary treatment, including disinfection and advanced methods such as membrane filtration and AOP. By the end of the course, attendees will be equipped with technical know-how and analytical skills to manage ASP systems effectively, ensuring compliance and environmental stewardship.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Comprehend the IETS systems and the sources of water pollution. Further comprehend the Secondary Treatment processes and their applications. (Objective 1/From Module 1 and 2)
- Comprehend the Activated Sludge Process (ASP) in detail. Scan through the parameters related to ASP process and preform calculation on how these parameters are calculated for proper control. (Objective 2/ From Module 3 & 4)
- Discussion on other IETS processes including the physical treatment such as preliminary and primary processes. Lastly, other topics such as tertiary treatment is discussed, including the Membrane Filtration and Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP). (Objective 3/ From Module 5 & 6)
