12 EiMAS CPD Hours| 20th & 21st Nov 2024 | HRDCorp Claimable Course
ABOUT THE COURSE
Establishment of an effective and advance solutions for Industrial Effluent Treatment System (IETS) is extremely important and critical to ensure that treatment technologies SUCH AS Membrane Filtration and Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) are strategically employed to tackle the respective wastewater generated by each industry. Competent Person should be well aware of the available of various advance solutions that can be employed in their IETS in order to treat the wastewater and ensure that the final discharge water are in compliance with the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009.
However, due to the availability of wide range of treatment technologies available and due to the complexity of wastewater content that is generated by each industry, it is always difficult for the Competent Person for Industrial Effluent Treatment System (CePIETSO-BP, CePIETSO-PCP) to access the best solution that will effectively process their waste water. Very often, due to shortage of knowledge on the availability of various treatment technologies and strategies, a Competent Person is not capable of accessing and finding the right solution to the problem that they faced. Due to limited time, this course will concentrate on covering the two (2) secondary treatment processes such as Membrane Filtration and Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) only.
The course will cover the general descriptions and understanding of the Conventional Treatment Processes of Industrial Effluent Treatment System (IETS). Very brief description on Physical Chemical Processes (PCP) and Biological Processes (BP). It provides guidance on the various type of membrane processes and illustrate with membrane technology applications. It also coversthe processed water can be further treated using advance oxidation processes before being discharged. Discussion on Industrial Effluent Characteristics Study (IECS) will be brought up. Wastewater parameters, treatment and disposal method are listed. A case study on IETS of book printing industry is presented. Eventually, the module covers other aspects such as Performance Monitoring, Activated Sludge control parameters and calculation, basic lab and instrument needed for parameter testing, Troubleshooting and Upset Condition and lastly, Environmental Monitoring Committee (EMC) Report and meeting.
In conclusion, the participants will understand the various wastewater technologies and strategies and apply them in effective Industrial Effluent Treatment system (IETS) management. Participants will gain in- depth knowledge particularly on Membrane Filtration and Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) and apply them in the management of their IETS. This course will not cover the most popular topics such as Physical, Chemical and Biological treatment processes since it will be discussed in another course. Participant will gain skills and confidence to effectively address the complex challenges associated with industrial effluent treatment and ensure that the IETS is in compliance with Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Comprehend the IETS systems and the secondary treatment processes such as Membrane Filtration and Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) with their applications.
- Comprehend the Industrial Effluent Characteristics Study (IECS, waste parameters, treatment and disposal methods.
- Discussion on an IETS at a Book Printing Industry, including equipment specifications, the Biological Process employed, the sludge dewatering and drying processes. Lastly, other topics
such as performance monitoring, technical control of Activated Sludge Process (ASP).
