INTRODUCTION
The term “working from height” is a very general job description. It can mean something simple as using a step ladder to clean high shelves, to being on an elevated platform to paint the side of a building. However, this does not turn from the fact that this is a high-risk job, one small misstep can cause a person to fall and injure themselves.
In fact, according to the SOCSO annual report 2021, there were 10,187 reported cases of accidents caused by working at height where more than 3,000 cases required SOCSO to pay Permanent Disability to the victims.
This is why new regulations for working at height have been released by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) in tandem with the Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022. These spell out clearly the definition, the prescribed distance, and other key provisions to mitigate the risk of falling from height among workers, marking a new milestone for occupational safety and health in Malaysia.
