Unhealthy air quality in 20 areas across 7 states
KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty areas across seven states recorded unhealthy air pollutant index (API) readings as of 9am today, with Sri Aman in Sarawak recording the highest reading.
The environment department’s API portal showed that Sri Aman recorded a reading of 195, approaching the very unhealthy level, followed by Serian (173), Sarikei (153), Miri (120) and Kuching (114).
Three areas in Selangor also recorded unhealthy readings, namely Johan Setia (154), Shah Alam (152) and Petaling Jaya (130), in addition to Cheras (159) and Batu Muda (152) in Kuala Lumpur.
A similar trend was detected in the northern part of the country, led by Seberang Perai at 157, followed by Minden (156) and Seberang Jaya (152) in Penang. In Kedah, the affected areas were Sungai Petani (152) and Alor Setar (103).
The three affected areas in Perak were Taiping (155), Tasek Ipoh (137) and Seri Manjung (113), while Seremban in Negeri Sembilan recorded a reading of 108.
Forty-six areas nationwide recorded moderate readings and one area recorded a good reading.
An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
