Areas with unhealthy air quality fall to 16 nationwide
PETALING JAYA: The number of areas recording unhealthy air pollutant index (API) readings had fallen to 16 as of 9am today, down sharply from 30 at the same time yesterday.
According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System portal, unhealthy API readings were recorded at stations in five states and two federal territories.
In Sarawak, Sri Aman recorded the highest reading nationwide at 166, followed by Serian (164) and Samarahan (162).
Selangor recorded five unhealthy readings: Shah Alam and Johan Setia, both at 157, followed by Banting (137), Klang (123) and Petaling Jaya (109).
Negeri Sembilan recorded two unhealthy readings: Nilai at 162 and Seremban at 157.
In Kuala Lumpur, Cheras recorded an API reading of 159, while Batu Muda recorded 152. Putrajaya recorded 158.
Tangkak in Johor recorded 153, while Bukit Rambai and Alor Gajah in Melaka recorded 123 and 110 respectively.
Fifty areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy; and 300 and above, hazardous.
The environment department is continuing to monitor the country’s ambient air quality through 68 monitoring stations to detect any significant changes that could affect public health.
