‘Very unhealthy’ air quality continues in Sri Aman as haze worsens
PETALING JAYA: The haze continued to affect large parts of Malaysia this morning, with 29 areas recording unhealthy air pollutant index (API) readings and Sri Aman in Sarawak still in a “very unhealthy” level as of 10am.
According to the environment department’s portal, the API at Sri Aman stood at 223, the worst across the country.
In Sarawak, the next highest readings were recorded in Serian (195), Sarikei (192), Kuching (171), Samarahan (169) and Mukah (166).
In the Klang Valley, Cheras recorded the highest API reading at 160, followed by Batu Muda (155), Shah Alam (155), Putrajaya (154), Johan Setia (154) and Petaling Jaya (141).
Up north, three areas in Penang recorded unhealthy air quality – Minden (160), Seberang Perai (158) and Seberang Jaya (156). In Kedah, the affected areas were Sungai Petani (162), Langkawi (159) and Alor Setar (156), while Kangar in Perlis recorded 155.
In Perak, unhealthy API readings were recorded in Taiping (155), Tanjung Malim (155), Tasek Ipoh (152), Seri Manjung (111) and Pegoh, Ipoh (106).
In Negeri Sembilan, Nilai recorded an API reading of 152, while Seremban recorded 139. Segamat in Johor recorded 140.
Other parts of the country recorded “moderate” API readings, with no “good” air quality reported nationwide.
An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
