‘Very unhealthy’ air quality in Sri Aman as haze worsens
PETALING JAYA: The haze across Malaysia worsened this evening with more areas recording unhealthy air pollutant index (API) readings, with Sri Aman in Sarawak reaching “very unhealthy” levels as of 5.45pm.
According to the environment department’s portal, the API in Sri Aman stood at 218, the worst across the country.
In Sarawak, this was followed by Serian (182), Samarahan (169), Sarikei (165), Kuching (161), Sibu (152) and Bintulu (141).
In the Klang Valley, the highest API reading was recorded in Cheras at 159, followed by Batu Muda (153), Johan Setia (149), Shah Alam (152), Putrajaya (133) and Petaling Jaya (124).
Up north, three areas in Penang recorded unhealthy air quality, namely Seberang Perai (158), Minden (158) and Seberang Jaya (153). In Kedah, the affected areas were Alor Setar (154) and Sungai Petani (154).
In Perak, there were unhealthy API readings in Taiping (153), Tasek Ipoh (124) and Tanjung Malim (116), while similar conditions were also reported in Seremban (112) in Negeri Sembilan.
Other parts of the country recorded “moderate” API readings, with no “good” air quality reported nationwide.
An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
