Expand Bangsar development capacity study citywide, DBKL urged
PETALING JAYA: A Kuala Lumpur residents’ group has urged City Hall (DBKL) to expand its six-month study on Bangsar’s development capacity to the entire city.
The Kuala Lumpur Residents Action for Sustainable Development Association (KLRA+SD) said the study could form the basis for determining the appropriate development intensity and sequencing of future projects across KL.
The group said different parts of the capital city have different physical, infrastructural and environmental capacities, and future developments should take these factors into account.
“KLRA+SD welcomes the indication that the Bangsar study may consider reducing the permitted density of future projects where the necessary infrastructure improvements cannot be undertaken.
“This would establish a more balanced relationship between development and infrastructure provision, rather than allowing infrastructure deficits to accumulate progressively as development continues,” it said in a statement.
KLRA+SD also called on DBKL to allow residents’ associations and other stakeholders to review and provide feedback on the findings of the study, and to consider independent technical review where appropriate.
Last week, KL mayor Fadlun Mak Ujud said DBKL had commenced a six-month study to assess the impact of existing, approved and future developments on Bangsar’s infrastructure capacity, including roads, drainage, water supply, electricity, telecommunications and green spaces.
This followed complaints from residents of severe traffic congestion and flash floods, among others.
